Every now and then even a comedian needs to get serious! I have a lot of respect for poets and spoken word artists, and I am neither, but sometimes the words flow from my heart right to the pen. It’s challenging to be an American living abroad looking in on the sad train wreck. From the mass shootings to police brutality to the racist comments made by Donald Trump a.k.a. Donald Douche-bag.
I constantly ask myself “what can I do to help?” Sure, I can make posts on Facebook, tweet and actually send in my absentee ballot, but what else?
I usually don’t share my poetry beyond my close circle but once my dear friend’s dad was killed by a very unexpected and violent act, I was encouraged to record my poem in hopes of it reaching those who need to hear it.
The poem is entitled “50.” It’s raw. It’s real. It’s dedicated to Mr. Brown and all those who have lost a loved one to violence.
Check it out, and if you dig it, please share it! If you don’t like it, share it with your enemies!
I’ll leave you with this: “In a world where you can be anything, be kind!” Watch the video, you’ll understand.
Photo: An overly dramatic still from the video to entice you to watch it…. did it work?
